What Is Microdermabrasion?Microdermabrasion is a facial procedure that uses manual exfoliation to remove the outer layer of skin. This process works in a series to achieve the best results. We use a Diamond tipped wand to abrade the surface of your skin.
What Happens in a Treatment?Your skin will first of all be cleansed with a cleanser appropriate to your skin type. We then will follow with the microdermabrasion wand smoothly over your skin, we will then tone the skin, apply a hydrating mask followed by a treatment serum and moisturizer, completing your treatment with Jane Iredale Powder SPF20. The entire procedure should take 60 minutes. What Will Microdermabrasion do for my skin? Overall, microdermabrasion will reduce the appearance of wrinkles, remove acne scars, clear up blackheads, minimize the size of the pores, reduce sun damage, and even out the skin tone. Microdermabrasion also helps to boost collagen production to provide firming and toning to the complexion. Is There Any Downtime After a Treatment? Microdermabrasion is a safe and gentle procedure with no downtime. The client will need to protect his or her skin with moisturizer and sun block for 48 hours after the treatment and may experience mild redness and sloughing/peeling. However, the client can return to work immediately, which is why many clients prefer to have microdermabrasion treatments on their lunch breaks since there is no downtime.
How Many Treatments Do I Need? When it comes to microdermabrasion, one treatment will not provide instant results. That is why it is important to have a series of microdermabrasion services, 3 to 6 are recommended for the best results. These initial 3 to 6 treatments can be spaced one week apart, and from that point, the client can continue to receive one treatment on a monthly basis for the best maintenance. How does a microdermabrasion treatment work on the skin? The thickness of the epidermis is increased because new cells are being produced more rapidly and the cells themselves are larger and healthier. The cells of the lower layers of the epidermis are knitted tighter in a more consistent "basket weave" configuration, instead of a haphazard arrangement. The barrier function of the epidermis is disrupted for the first 24 to 48 hours causing the skin to be drier than usual. During the cell reproduction of cells the fibroblasts that make up the collagen fibers are increased and are thicker more tightly packed and more organized. The number of elastin fibers also increased and they are orientated vertically instead of horizontally giving the dermal layer more "spring".
What results can I expect?Depending on the area treated, you will notice an improvement in your skin's appearance after your treatment. Stretch marks and acne scars will be less obvious. Age spots and fine lines are reduced, and many Microdermabrasion clients report that their skin seems softer, tighter, smoother and younger looking.
What Will Microdermabrasion do for my skin?Overall, microdermabrasion will reduce the appearance of wrinkles, remove acne scars, clear up blackheads, minimize the size of the pores, reduce sun damage, and even out the skin tone. Is Microdermabrasion Effective For Men?Men can use microdermabrasian just as women can. The procedure and results are the same; there are no side effects or risks.
Is Microdermabrasion Good For Acne Scarring?By removing the top layer of the skin, professional micro abrasion diminishes or even removes superficial acne scarring. Deeper acne scarring requires a more invasive procedure, like a deep chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing.
What is Dermaplaning?Dermaplaning is a precise, elegant and highly effective superficial exfoliation. “Planing” as it is commonly referred to, relies on the simplest of tools but the most artful of skill to deeply scrape and exfoliate away the top layers of inert skin. This low tech treatment yields the highest dividends in skin toning, clarifying and re-texturizing and is ideally suited for all ages and skin types. Dermaplaning also removes hair from the treated areas leaving behind a smooth, beautiful face free from embarrassing and unwanted hair. Dermaplaning does not remove the root of facial hair, but instead removes the hair that sits above the epidermis. Dermaplaning designed to work effectively with the vellous hairs found on your face and prevents hair from appearing thicker or darker as it grows back in.
How Does Dermaplaning Work?Dermaplaning can remove up to 2 to 3 weeks worth of rough, dead skin and build up can be performed every 3 to 4 weeks. Dermaplaning uses a specifically developed type blade, known as a dermatone blade. This blade has a rotating head and is oftentimes compared to an electric razor as it relies on this continual, fast movement to safely remove layers of dead skin. This blade is held at a 45 degree angle to the skin while your dermatologist gently moves the blade along the surface of your face and manipulates the skin with their hands. Depending upon the severity and depth at which dead and unwanted skin sits on the face the length of your treatment may range from several minutes to an hour. Deeper lines, and more severe build up of dead skin require more layers of skin to be removed.
BenefitsDermaplaning can be performed on small, precise areas of the skin or can be applied to larger regions, including the entire face. Dermaplaning can also be performed in addition to other skin treatments, such as chemical peels or cortisone injections. This treatment also encourages the growth of new, healthy skin cells and can have a positive impact on the skin cell lifecycle. Dermaplaning is a highly effective way to resurface the skin and is a highly effective method for leveling out uneven surfaces on the face. Dermaplaning is gentle and does not break the capillaries on the face, which more agressive exfoliators may do. This prevents skin discoloration or scarring. Since dermaplaning does not involve the application of chemicals it is a great alternative for individuals who have sensitive skin and cannot undergo chemical peels or other chemically based treatments. Dermaplaning is a non-surgical procedure and requires no recovery time nor does it produce any visible side effects. Thive Med Spa clients are always delighted at the feel of their skin after being dermaplaned and can hardly believe how even and youthful they appear. The saying “No pain, no gain” does not apply to this highly effective exfoliating technique!
